Keeping Wooden Blinds Looking Beautiful Print E-mail
Friday, 06 April 2007
When purchasing wooden blinds, it is essential that you deal with a reputable manufacturer or salesperson that is willing to answer your questions and deal with your concerns. If he or she does not appear knowledgeable about the product, they may not be equipped to handle your order. Wooden blinds, like any portion of your home décor, are an investment into the look of your home and you want to make any investment with care.

When you finally settle on a manufacture or salesperson that you are satisfied with, be sure to ask any questions you may have about your wooden blinds. No detail is too insignificant when it comes to personalizing your wooden blinds. For starters, you may want to ask whether the wood is cut with the vertical grain or in another direction. This affects the strength and durability of the wood slats and your salesperson can explain which option is best.  The correct choice will prevent the slat from bending or bowing in the middle.

Sagging blinds detract from the room, appearing old and worn. For added strength, a cord can be inserted down the middle of the slats in addition to the cord on either end. This helps to center the wooden blinds, but some feel it takes away from the overall look of the blinds. Starting off with strong, properly cut wood, is the easiest way to maintain strength without compromising the beauty of the wooden blinds. Varnish or stain may be applied as a finishing touch or the wooden blinds can be left looking natural.
