One of the most competitive and industrious but also enjoyable of jobs is considered to be a career in public relations. A job in public relations is rife with responsibilities, those that can make or break a company to be more precise. The idea of a career in public relations implies a individual helping a company or organization establish to maintain or enhance a reputation, and sometimes even both may be needed. There are variations on the same title like being a public relations specialist, a media specialist or even a communications specialist. This title means working in an area where two or more parties are interrelated for example working in advertising, the community, the media or in political circles.

Endeavors and tasks as writing, public speaking, international or interstate travel, presentation designs and information disbursement is what generally a career in public relation requires. "Public information, investor relations, public affairs, corporate communications, employee relations, marketing or product publicity, and consumer service or customer relations" – is what the Public Relation Society of America explains regarding what a career in public relations involves.

The salary implies standard work week plus the unexpected, the overtime, the critical and the emergent, and that is what a person in a career in public relations can expect to earn. The employer should expect to start at an entry level when just starting into his career in public relation, and then work his way up to vice president of a company. This can be done by usually devising the overall plans and working with other PR specialists. The salaries start at about 20k and can sometimes reach to 250k depending very much on the region where the career is practiced.

The required qualifications are not set in stone, but the person intending a career in PR can make it best suited and most marketable by getting a bachelor’s or post secondary degree according to PRSA and BLS. When he goes into the public sector or works in government relations this combination will be a lucrative a satisfying one wether he or she engage in counseling or research, or goes into the community, into the media or into finance.
